The lauded Land Rover Defender is going gold in its latest "Trophy Edition" appointment, but there's more to the exclusive package than trail-busting upgrades.

As Motor Trend notes, the limited-run four-door SUVs are wrapped in a yellow and black color combo inspired by the even more exclusive Defender Works V8 Trophy SUVs that serve as homages to Land Rover Camel Trophy race that ran between 1980 and 1998.

Under the eye-catching coat will be the 2022 Defender 110 equipped with the 395-horsepower 3.0-liter inline six—a curious decision considering that the British ute maker just began offering its own supercharged V8 for that model year

Regardless, it's also kitted out with all-terrain equipment, including an expedition roof rack, skid plate, deployable ladder, a winch, mud flaps, deep-ridged rubber mats, an air suspension, and an integrated air compressor to inflate patched tires.

Each of the 220 planned Land Rover Defender Trophy Editions will cost $90,000, which is just over $20,000 more than you'd pay for the base Defender 110. But as we alluded to earlier, buyers aren't just getting some extra bells and whistles.

Also included is an opportunity to pick a buddy and head out on a one-day excursion as competitor in the Land Rover U.S. Trophy Competition. Up to 90 teams (six waves of 15 teams selected on a first come, first served basis) will compete at the sprawling Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C. on October 11.

One-on-one coaching will be provided to help each pair navigate on- and off-road challenges and recreate a little of the original Land Rover Camel Trophy's magic. The winning team moves on to the finals at Eastnor Castle in the U.K.

<![CDATA[The Upcoming 'Predator' Prequel 'Skull' Is Being Compared to 'The Revenant']]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/the-upcoming-predator-prequel-skull-is-being-compared-to-the-revenanthttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/the-upcoming-predator-prequel-skull-is-being-compared-to-the-revenantThu, 29 Jul 2021 14:09:16 GMT

Predator is getting a prequel titled Skull, according to this Collider interview with producers John Davis and John Fox. Fox and Davis went back to the basics, apparently. There's no (now-elderly) Arnold Schwarzenegger bellowing for everyone to get back to "da choppah."

"It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work," Davis told Collider, "It's the ingenuity of a human being who won't give up, who's able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force."

While an ingenious lone human against one of the towering, crab-faced creatures is exactly the basic plot of the original 1987 movie, the producers actually think their film has much more in common with a prestigious historical drama—the movie that netted Leonardo DiCaprio his first Oscar, The Revenant.

"It actually has more akin to The Revenant than it does any film in the Predator canon," John Fox said, "You'll know what I mean once you see it."

Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Predator"

Fox isn't being as cagey as he may have intended in making that comparison. Revenant was about one man alone against the wilderness at a time when you could only survive if you had a sharp enough wit and some real survival skills. No tech as we know it today. So it sounds like the alien hunters have the deck stacked in their favor even more than before.

According to producers, the movie was essentially filmed in secret. And they think it could even compare to the original. Davis said, "it's going to be, I believe, the second best — or the first... or it may be equal to the first one. Right?"

"I feel like the first one was a wonderful, interesting movie," he continued, "and I know what worked about it. I feel like we kind of never got back there again. We ended up in different places. I think this is a worthy complement to the first one. It's going to be as good."

That's a hell of a brag, considering that the original Schwarzenegger film was an almost instant sci-fi classic, still the source of memes today.

Closer details about the movie are still few, but it was directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who helmed Cloverfield sequel 10 Cloverfield Lane, which featured John Goodman playing the bad guy for once, in a memorably chilling performance.

Skull is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2022.

Samsung isn't resting on its laurels after last year's buzzy launch of the Odyssey G9, a hefty high-def monitor that's described as the "ultimate gamer's accessory" by multiple outlets.

Instead, the electronics is introducing an improved version dubbed the Odyssey G9 Neo with Quantum Mini LEDs, the same types of tiny light-emitting diodes featured in Samsung's 4K and 8K TVs

Enhanced gradation increases the difference between the darkest darks and lightest lights across 2,049 dimming zones, with peak brightness clocking in a 2,000 nits. For comparison's sake, most smartphones and laptops fall in the 200-300-nit range, according to Digital Trends

While the screen boasts intense luminosity and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, Samsung reports that the 1000R curvature was awarded TUV Rheinland's Eye Comfort certificate.

Returning features include the ultra-wide 49-inch diagonal length in a 32:9 aspect ratio, a blistering 240Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and support for adaptive synchronization from top graphics cards manufacturers like Nvidia and AMD.

Provided a large enough desk, the Odyssey G9 Neo can serve as the hallmark addition to a gaming setup, with a glossy white exterior and a 52-color customizable light system with five effects.

“We are constantly listening to gamers to better understand how they play and how monitors can elevate their game,” said Samsung Electronics executive Mark Quiroz in a statement announcing the newly-improved gaming monitor.

“The introduction of the Neo G9’s Quantum Mini-LED display is a result of that, as it delivers an unparalleled and immersive, state-of-the-art experience that points the way to the future of gaming.”

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 with Quantum Mini LED is available to preorder now for $2,500 and ahead of the first deliveries on August 9.

Luxury travel trailer maker Living Vehicle's newest model offers those who've secured an all-electric pickup like the Ford F-150 Lightning or Tesla Cybertruck to live off the grid without visiting a charging station.

So long as there's regular sunlight, the 2022 Living Vehicle Pro-EV can generate enough power to charge EVs using an integrated 240V Level 2 charging station and a 20,000-watt dual inverter with energy gathered by the latest high-storage solar panels from SunPower.

That leaves owners to enjoy an extended stay in whatever secluded locations beckon, and do so luxuriously. The mobile abode, built from durable aircraft-made materials, offers 232-square-feet of interior space that's outfitted like a mini upscale apartment.

Inside is a residential-style kitchen with a removable cooking island, 13-cubic-foot all-electric solar fridge and a three-burner oven powered by a self-contained 80-pound propane tank.

The master bedroom is designed to personal specifications, but the layout shown here includes a queen-size memory foam bed, a “Starview” skylight, and a 70-inch 4K HD TV with SONOS surround sound.

If it's a working vacay, the bed can be folded to reveal an 80-inch desk ready and a vertical surface on which monitors and other AV equipment can be mounted.

While necessarily modest in size, the bathroom is finished in a spa style with a 32x36-inch shower with a rainfall head, walnut finishes, and a compost toilet. Multiple options are available here, including hardwood back-wall paneling, a foldable teak and stainless steel shower seat, and an electric toilet/bidet.

As decadent as the interior is, the reason to buy a trailer is to enjoy the outdoors, which factored majorly into the LV's design. An eight-foot sliding glass door opens up onto a full-integrated, barbecue-worthy deck with foldable railing that can be raised or lowered at the push of a button.

Owners will eventually have to resupply and unload waste, but not often. The LV's self-contained facilities include a 100-gallon freshwater tank, and separate black and gray water tanks.

The 2022 Living Vehicle Pro-EV is available to around $500,000, depending on selected options. Visit Living Vehicle's website to learn more or place an order.

2021 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

The Chevrolet Camaro will be replaced by the near opposite of a gas-guzzling muscle car—an all-electric sedan.

Motor Trend is one of many reliable automotive outlets that's citing a report from Automotive News, which published a roundup General Motors' future lineup.

The current, sixth-generation Camaro has no future replacement to take the reigns when it's killed off in 2024. Making matters more bleak for fans is the fact that GM is discontinuing the Alpha platform on which the Camaro and multiple Cadillac variants reside, and there are no plans to build a seventh-gen Camaro atop the succeeding A2XX architecture.

There's a chance that Chevy might reappropriate the Camaro nameplate for a new EV, a la the GMC Hummer EV or the Ford Mustang Mach E. Anything is possible as GM pours $35 billion into electric vehicles through 2025 as it works to achieve a tentative all-electric status by 2035, beginning with the Ultium battery platform.

Those who are ready for GM to move past internal combustion engines have a lot to be excited about. The 2024 GMC Hummer EV has already been announced with 830 horsepower, a 3.5-second 60-mph sprint time, 11,500 pound-feet of torque, and a 300-mile maximum range.

That same model year will also bring about a Chevrolet Corvette Electric, according to Motor Trend. No other details are currently available.

All that said, pour one out for the Camaro.

Shahram K.

Iranian pop singer Shahram Kashani, 47, has died after contracting Coronavirus in Istanbul, Turkey. Kashani, a certified pop sensation since his debut nearly 30 years ago, apparently caught COVID-19 while hospitalized and receiving treatment for liver problems.

The revered artist's death was confirmed by an Instagram post with a caption that read in part, "It is with sorrowful hearts we announce to fans [that] our beloved Shahramk passed away on Monday morning."

Born in 1974 in Rome, Italy, Kashani—his first name is sometimes transliterated into English as "Shahrum" and his nickname among fans was "Shahram K"—released his first album, K-One, in 1992.

He came to prominence in part through support from other Iranian celebs like Los Angeles-based singer Leila Forouhar, but his fame among Iranians was long-lasting thanks in part to his on-stage and on-screen charisma.

The Iranian musician's death was mourned on social media by fans and artists alike.

The most recent post on Kashani's Instagram as of July 29th indicated it was a message from his mother. She wrote in part (translated from Persian), "Shahram was a good man, a sensitive man [...] with all his vulnerable and fragile emotions...an artist."

The lone copy of Wu-Tang Clan's Once Upon a Time in Shaolin—originally purchased by disgraced "Pharma Bro" Martin Shkreli for $2 million—has been sold by the U.S. government to an anonymous buyer in exchange for paying down the imprisoned pharmaceutical executive and hedge fund manager's multi-million dollar debt.

The exclusive LP, presented in a hand-carved nickel-silver box designed by British Moroccan artist Yahya, was seized in 2018 after a judge ruled that the asset could be used to pay off part of Shkreli's $7.36 million debt. Cilvaringz reportedly produced the 31-track release "under the tutelage" of Wu-Tang founder RZA.

"The intrinsic value of music has been reduced to zero," read the manifesto of the album's website. "Contemporary art is worth millions by virtue of its exclusivity. The album is a piece of contemporary art."

Shkreli became infamous in 2015 after jacking up the price of the parasite-treating drug Darapim by 5,000 percent—from $13.50 to $750 per tablet—using his company Turing Pharmaceuticals.

Wu-Tang mainstay Ghostface Killah famously called him a "shithead" for creating the price hike. Shkreli then unsuccessfully tried to sell the album in an online auction.

He is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence after being convicted of securities fraud and conspiracy to commit securities fraud in relation to the Retrophin stock scheme.

"There is no conspiracy to take down Martin Shkreli," he reportedly said in court. "I took down Martin Shkreli with my disgraceful and shameful actions."

The original 1984 Ghostbusters was one of the most iconic comedies of the 1980s, so it's no surprise that the venerable film franchise is still chugging along in reboot-obsessed 2021.

Aside from 1989's forgettable Ghostbusters 2, there was a controversial 2016 reboot that failed to excite critics or fans. Now, writer/director Jason Reitman is hoping to conjure some of that old Ghostbusters magic with the latest trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, produced by his dad Ivan Reitman, the veteran filmmaker who helmed the original movie.

From the looks of the new trailer, Ghostbusters: Afterlife— meant to be a direct sequel to the original movie—relies on its young cast (along with Paul Rudd) to update the franchise, bridging nostalgia with a Stranger Things vibe that looks to be the kind of reboot parents of a certain age will happily bring their kids to. Check out the official synopsis here, and watch the trailer above.

From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman, comes the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe.

In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

Starring Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Annie Potts and Paul Rudd, Ghostbusters: Afterlife also reportedly features original cast cameos by Bill Murray (as Peter Venkman), Sigourney Weaver (as Dana Barrett), Dan Aykroyd (as Ray Stantz), Ernie Hudson (as Winston Zeddemore), and Annie Potts (as Janine Melnitz). It opens exclusively in theaters on November 11.

<![CDATA[Twitter Reacts To Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis' Controversial Comments About Bathing Their Kids]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/twitter-freaks-ashton-kutcher-mila-kunis-bathing-kidshttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/twitter-freaks-ashton-kutcher-mila-kunis-bathing-kidsWed, 28 Jul 2021 12:08:00 GMT

It appears Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have a surprisingly weird philosophy regarding their kids' personal cleanliness that only other hassled parents of little ones might understand.

The celebrity couple guest on the Armchair Expert podcast hosted by Dax Shepard and Monica Padman to talk cryptocurrency, but the conversation segued into they got into how their whole family takes care of their skin.

On the subject of daily showers, Kunis pointed out she didn't have hot water as a kid (her family left then-Soviet Ukraine in 1991) so not jumping in a steamy shower daily was normal—many who grew up in poor homes might understand.

Kutcher then followed up with the statement that apparently had much of Twitter, in particular, reacting with what could politely be called consternation.

Regarding making sure his kids are clean (the pair have two together, a six-year-old daughter and four-year-old son), Kutcher said, "Now here’s the thing, if you can see the dirt on them, clean them. Otherwise, there’s no point."

That was likely enough to raise some eyebrows. Then Kutcher continued, "I wash my armpits and my crotch daily, and nothing else ever. I got a bar of Lever 2000 that delivers every time. Nothing else."

Social media reactions to this revelation didn't necessarily amount to what might be called a "cancellation," but people definitely had jokes regarding the way others might deal with the outcome of what they see as the celebrity couples' somewhat gross parenting choices.

Some responses were damn funny:

In the couples' defense, here's the American Academy of Dermatology's recommendation regarding bathing kids ages 6-11:

If your child is in this age group, taking a daily bath is fine. Children in this age group, however, may not need a daily bath. Children aged 6 to 11 need a bath:

* At least once or twice a week.
* When they get dirty, such as playing in the mud.
* After being in a pool, lake, ocean, or other body of water.
* When they get sweaty or have body odor.
* As often as directed by a dermatologist if getting treated for a skin disease .

Emphasis added. Based on the limited information from Kutcher's offhand comment on a podcast, it sounds like he and Mila Kunis are pretty much following medical guidelines, whether intentional or not.

The American Academy of Dermatology says it's when kids are tweens and older that they should begin bathing daily.

Maybe everyone is missing the point in worrying over how often the couple bathes their kids

The more troubling question might be: What's it like to share a crowded elevator with 6'3", 180-lb "armpits and crotch wash only" Ashton Kutcher after a tough workout?

To quote the title of Jordan Peele's next horror movie: Nope.

While Conor McGregor is the proud owner of a Lamborghini Sian-based yacht that's been called the "supercar of the sea," Belassi's new Burrasca jet ski is being likened to the watercraft equivalent of a crotch rocket. Or as the Austrian company puts it, a category-inventing " Marine hypercraft."

With a hefty dose of body paneling coated in a equal parts Racing Red and Bright White high-gloss paint, it's easy to immediately draw a parallel to a Ducati's similarly colored superbike.

“Part of creating something special is to make a product less industrialized—that’s why the Burrasca is handcrafted,” Belassi said in a statement. “The lines of the Burrasca are sharp, stunning and instantly recognizable.”

Carbon fiber, a material that's employed in top-level motorsport construction, is also used to create the top deck, handle bar, exhaust and full carbon reverse flap. . There are even four chrome tailpipes, recalling the back ends of supercars.

Meanwhile, the race-grade composite hull with a pointed keel slices through water with 320 horsepower produced by a turbocharged 1.6-liter marine three-cylinder.

Robb Report notes that it'll hit 62 mph in sub-four-seconds and top out at 74 mph, putting it firmly in the upper echelon of jet ski speed. Not to mention, it can hit 3 Gs in a sharp carve.

Much like a performance motorcycle or car, the dash is loaded with ways to track your ride across two screens. The first features integrated GPS for speed and position, a boost indicator, fuel level, total engine hours, and even two driving modes: Sports and Rookie.

A second screen features light up indicators for the g-meter and service, an engine system monitor, cruise control status, auto-hold, and error indicator.

Priced at $59,300, the Belassi Burrasca is currently only available in Europe and Asia

Journey with us back in time to carefree days in the sun, poolside in Miami or a tropical locale of your choosing. What’s the prevailing style of the day, then and now? An easy, breezy cabana shirt, another variation of the Hawaiian shirt -- and one of the coolest men’s shirts you can wear when the mercury rises and rises.

Cabana shirts are seeing something of a resurgence (you’ll also see them referred to as camp collar shirts). But it’s not so much a trend as it is a style every guy can embrace. Cabana shirts sometimes feature a camp collar, a one-piece collar designed to lay flat, or else worn closed with the top button done up.

Either way, you’ll know a cabana shirt when you see one.

They’re cut more relaxed and feature a straight hem, and you’ll often find cabana shirts in breezy fabrics like linen, lightweight cotton or even classic rayon. And the patterns and colors found in the best cabana shirts are about as cool and summer-friendly as it gets.

Strike while the iron’s hot, or in this case, outfit yourself in impeccable warm-weather style while it’s still summer with some of the coolest cabana shirts in the game.

Buck Mason Three-Pocket Cabana Shirt

The all-American style purveyors at Buck Mason are wholeheartedly embracing warm summer vibes with the brand’s new cabana shirt. Made the old-school way (mostly on a single-needle sewing machine), this shirt’s Baltic tiki pattern and light, plain-weave cotton are just what your summer shirting rotation needs right now. $105

Todd Snyder Italian Seersucker Camp Collar Shirt

Todd Snyder has a knack for taking distinctly classic pieces and freshening them up for today’s modern man. That’s the approach the NYC designer has taken with his expertly fashioned take on the camp collar shirt, featuring Italian cotton seersucker in a seriously unique print. $158

United By Blue Organic Camp Shirt

United By Blue makes gear that’s outdoor-friendly but surprisingly stylish. Take this camp shirt, which you really could wear as you build a fire at a cabin getaway. Like the other picks on this list, it’s exceedingly breezy (thanks to the lightweight organic cotton) and wearable with everything from chino shorts to linen trousers. $35

Kenny Flowers Early Retirement Cabana Shirt

Kenny Flowers, best known for the brand's bold and colorful prints, has taken the cabana shirt and gone all-in on retro style. That’s because the laidback Early Retirement Cabana Shirt is actually part of the brand’s recently launched cabana sets, which pair up breezy shorts and a shirt in the same pattern. The choices are all eye-catching and ready-made for beach beers and pool parties aplenty. $85

J. Crew Camp Collar Garment-Dyed Shirt

J. Crew gets in on the action with its own take on the cabana shirt, the kind that’s breezy enough to wear to the beach but smart enough to wear under a khaki cotton blazer. Two front-button pockets add a bit of utility to this shirt, but we can imagine about the only thing you’ll be doing when wearing this shirt is reaching for a bottle opener and a cold beer. $69.50

Richard Hammond's auto obsessions continue onward with The Smallest Cog, a new classic vehicle restoration business to be highlighted on an as-yet untitled upcoming Discovery docuseries.

But he needs a cash infusion to get things going, so he's selling eight beloved vehicles from his personal collection through Silverstone Auctions.

1969 Porsche 911T

“The irony of me supporting my new classic car restoration business by selling some of my own classic car collection is not wasted on me” Hammond said in a statement announcing the auction.

"It is with a very heavy heart that they go, as they have a great deal of personal sentimental value, but they will be funding the future development of the business and giving life back to countless other classic vehicles.”

1991 Lotus Esprit Sport 350

"The Hamster" has spent two decades presenting alongside towering co-hosts Jeremy Clarkson and James May on both Top Gear in the BBC program's heyday and Amazon's The Grand Tour, where the trio of "petrol heads" continue to create entertaining gags that are ostensibly rooted in a love of all things rides.

To that end, the offerings from Hammonds collection are exceptionally diverse. There's a 1959 Bentley S2, a classic luxobarge that changed the game for the British marque by ushering in a 6.2-liter V8. A 1969 Porsche 911T represents the first time the then-nascent sports car was equipped with an enlarged 2.2-liter flat-six.

1977 Moto Guzzi Le Mans MK1

Hammond's 1999 Lotus Esprit V8 Sport 350 is the most aggressively track-oriented Esprit of its day. The one-of-48 example was cut by nearly 190 pounds to help the 350-hp 3.5-liter twin-turbo V8 push it to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds.

On the bike front, highlights include the flat-tank 1927 Sunbeam Model 2 and a 1977 Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mk1 cafe racer done up with a rare, red fairing.

The Richard Hammond Collection hits the block on August 1 at Silverstone's Wing Building. Click here to learn more.

Bremont knows how to put a new timepiece through its paces. The British watchmaker has released a new titanium pilot's watch, the MB "Savanna," that was put through endurance tests by no less than Martin-Baker—the leading maker of fighter pilot ejection seats for the last 70 years.

The Savanna has been designed with a sandblasted, 43mm camo case which took its color from the parachutes embedded in Martin-Baker's seats.

Striking features include an anti-reflective tactical coating and appealing rotor visible through the crystal case back, knurled stems and a black and yellow loop on the second hand meant to evoke an ejection seat's pull knob.

That's appropriate, considering all MBs go through tests that ensure they can endure what they'll go through on an actual military pilot's wrist. That includes actual seat ejections and exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions.

Crafted from grade 5 titanium at the brand's HQ in Oxfordshire in the UK, the Savanna's name was inspired by African grasslands like the Serengeti plain. The color scheme extends to the Super-LumiNova-coated hands and indices as well as the rubber strap.

Additional specs, per Bremont:

 • 38 hours of power reserve
 • Water-resistant to 100 meters
 • Chronometer rated to ISO 3159 standard
 • Comes with a Sand Canvas Wallet and multi-purpose watch tool

Ever-prolific menswear guru Todd Snyder has turned to farm-to-table food for inspiration in his new Farmers Market collaborative collection with New Balance

Fronting the tasty style capsule are three seasonal colorways of the limited-edition NB 327. As Snyder has a penchant for revisiting retro styles, the sneaker is a mash-up of three 1970s-era New Balance runners—the 320, 355 and Supercomp.

The NB 327 saw a street style revival in Europe last year, but Snyder's take is rooted in New York City's greenmarkets, with inverted natural hues on opposite sides of the shoe. The Wheat edition is rendered in olive and tan, the Pineapple in blue and orange, and the Pomegranate in orange and red.

Each gets a unique sketch of its namesake nutriment emblazoned on the tongue, as well as a suede-over-mesh construction for cool comfort in the summer heat.

Rounding out the capsule are three color-coordinated Market Coats. Described as a "hybrid between a chore coat and a blazer," the seersucker jackets feature open-patch pockets, button cuffs, and a three-into-two button design.

Like the shoes, the Market Coats are equally suited to browsing newly picked produce on a Saturday morning or attending a casual work week meeting.

“We concepted the Farmer’s Market capsule during lockdown. So the design team and I were reminiscing about (and looking forward to) the experience of walking around a farmer’s market on a hot summer day,” said Snyder in a statement announcing his latest New Balance collab.

“We wanted these sneakers and jackets to be a colorful reminder of how special that experience is. I’m grateful that this capsule is coming out at a moment when many of us can return to our local farm stands and favorite restaurants.”

As part of the product launch, Todd Snyder New York is donating $10,000 to GrowNYC, a non-profit dedicated to creating environmental programs in every block and borough.

The Farmers Market collection hits Todd Snyder's website on July 29 before a global launch at New Balance's website on August 12.

<![CDATA[CDC Reverses Policy, Recommends Wearing Masks Indoors Even For Vaccinated in COVID Hotspots]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=news/cdc-ready-to-mandate-masks-indoors-for-some-vaccinatedhttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=news/cdc-ready-to-mandate-masks-indoors-for-some-vaccinatedTue, 27 Jul 2021 17:17:00 GMT

COVID-19 isn't done with us yet. As a result, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has released new mask recommendations requiring even those who have been vaccinated against the virus to wear face coverings indoors in areas where there is "substantial" COVID transmission.

In a press briefing, CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said, "This new science is worrisome and unfortunately warrants an update to our recommendations. This is not a decision that we or CDC has made lightly."

Here's more from the New York Times:

The change follows reports of rising breakthrough infections with the Delta variant of the virus in people who were fully immunized, and case surges in regions with low vaccination rates. The vaccines remain effective against the worst outcomes of infection with the virus, including those involving the Delta variant.

But the new guidance, the details of which are expected later Tuesday, would mark a sharp turnabout from the agency’s position since May that vaccinated people do not need to wear masks in most indoor spaces.

In the Tuesday briefing, Dr. Walensky also said, "In recent days I have seen new scientific data from recent outbreak investigations showing that the Delta variant behaves uniquely differently from past strains of the virus that cause Covid-19."

Updated guidance for schools, according to Walensky, states that the "CDC recommends that everyone in K through 12 schools wear a mask indoors, including teachers, staff, students and visitors, regardless of vaccination status."

That said, the director also stated students "should return to full-time, in-person learning in the fall with proper prevention strategies in place."

Back in May, Walensky indicated that the agency could relax indoor mask recommendations because, as the Times writes, few "vaccinated people become infected with the virus, and transmission seems rarer still."

That was before the Delta variant of the virus became more widespread. Since then, this much more easily transmitted version of the bug has been found in "clusters" that included fully vaccinated people, indicating it may be able to break through vaccine protection easier than other coronavirus variations.

This comes on the heels of a USA Today report that California and New York City plan to require vaccinations or testing and the Department of Veteran Affairs "has made shots mandatory for medical workers."

Multiple reports, as well as statements by Dr. Anthony Fauci, indicate we're seeing renewed concerns about infections from variants at least in part because, according to the Times (citing federal data), "[slightly] less than half of the population had been fully vaccinated, as of Monday."

Vaxxed and masks thrown out or stored away? Go here to stock up again. Just in case.

<![CDATA[New 'No Time to Die' Trailer: Car Chases, Shootouts, and Lea Seydoux]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/no-time-to-die-trailer-bond-is-backhttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/no-time-to-die-trailer-bond-is-backTue, 27 Jul 2021 14:42:05 GMT

It's understandable if anyone sees the new trailer for No Time to Die and then wonders if the final Daniel Craig turn as Bond ever actually makes it into theaters.

After all, the coronavirus pandemic—still ongoing in some form in many places—has delayed Bond 45 since April 2020. Diehard 007 fans are no doubt as ready as they can be to see what's in store for their favorite secret agent.

The trailer is relatively short but we get new footage featuring Lea Seydoux as Bond's love interest Madeline Swan and Ben Whishaw as Q, Bond's gadget guru, and a few extra looks at Daniel Craig in the thick of things as Bond takes on a new enemy—quite possibly his most dangerous yet—in the form of Rami Malek's Safin.

Here's the movie's synopsis: "Recruited to rescue a kidnapped scientist, globe-trotting spy James Bond finds himself hot on the trail of a mysterious villain, who's armed with a dangerous new technology."

Another point made in this trailer: No simultaneous streaming release for James Bond; No Time to Die will premiere only in theaters.

Watch the trailer above to get pumped for Craig's final Bond appearance in No Time to Die, which finally hits theaters on October 8.

<![CDATA[The Audi RS Q E-Tron Is Built to Be an Off-Road Racing Pioneer]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=rides/audi-rs-q-e-tron-is-an-all-electric-rally-warriorhttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=rides/audi-rs-q-e-tron-is-an-all-electric-rally-warriorTue, 27 Jul 2021 13:20:00 GMT

It may look like a ludicrous concept, but the Audi RS Q E-Tron will complete its move from the design studio to the dirt in less than two years when it competes in the 2022 Dakar Rally. The German marque hopes that it will become the first electric vehicle to win the off-road endurance event.

Cover nearly 500 miles of trying, break-inducing terrain on a daily basis for two weeks straight is no easy task for cars with traditional internal combustion engines. For a hybrid EV, it's both a massively difficult and uncharted feat.

“That’s a very long distance,” says Andreas Roos, responsible for the Dakar project at Audi Sport. “What we are trying to do has never been done before. This is the ultimate challenge for an electric drivetrain.”

The RS Q E-Tron runs the highly efficient turbo-charged inline four engine from the championship-winning RS5 Turbo DTM, which acts as an energy converter that charges the high-voltage battery while driving.

The front and rear axles are both fitted with a motor-generator unit (MGU) from the current Audi E-Tron FE07 Formula E car, while a third MGU also aids in energy conversion. Together with a 50 kWh battery, the maximum power output is 671 hp through one forward gear.

The Dakar Rally is among the most mechanically taxing motorsport events in the world, so a finish from the RS Q E-Tron will be a success regardless of result. But if any automaker can do it, it's the one that pioneered rallying with the legendary Audi Quattro and notched the world's first hybrid Le Mans win with the R18 E-Tron Quattro in 2020.

“The quattro was a gamechanger for the World Rally Championship. Audi was the first brand to win the Le Mans 24 Hours with an electrified drivetrain," said Julius Seebach, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH.

"Now, we want to usher in a new era at the Dakar Rally, while testing and further developing our E-Tron technology under extreme conditions.”

Any well-kept Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 is a catch—the Jeep Wrangler-rivaling classic is still in such high demand that Miami's FJ Company has an entire business dedicated to restomodding the Japanese off-roader. But what about an FJ40 formerly owned and autographed by Tom Hanks?

It's not priceless, as Bonhams is selling the blockbuster-making actor's 1980 FJ40 at its Quail Lodge Auction for somewhere between an estimated $75,000 and $125,000. But the Hanks connection isn't the only thing driving up the vintage 4x4's price.

A 2000 model-year GM 4.3-liter Vortec V6 with sequential port fuel injection sends an increased 180 horsepower at 4,400 revs through a GM-sourced five-speed manual transmission. According to Bonhams, someone who's been behind the wheel of both Hanks' GM-upgraded model and an FJ40 with its stock 4.2-liter inline-six described the American power as "completely transformational."

An Old Man Emu steering damper and shocks bolster the suspension, while chrome wheels wrapped in Toyo Open Country tires create aesthetic flash, as does the pine green paint coat.

Hanks' commission, while not extravagant, does include other upgrades including Porsche high-back seats, center-facing folding rear seats, a roof-mounted rack and spare wheel, extra rear speakers for the Sony AM-FM stereo, and an air conditioner to accompany the factory heater.

Head to Bonhams' website to learn more about the Saving Private Ryan star's ride before the auction kicks off on August 13.

The nearly century-old birthplace of Japanese whisky can be traced with the tongue in the latest luxe expression from the historic House of Suntory.

Yamazaki 25 Single Malt Whisky enters a portfolio of exquisite 12-, 18- and 25-, and top-shelf 55-year-old expressions blended from liquids finished in American, Spanish and Japanese Mizunara oak. This newly reformulated version, bottled at 43 percent ABV, took home a Gold Medal at the 2021 International Spirits Challenge, 18 years after first winning the award.

That shouldn't be a surprise to fans of Japanese single malts, as Yamazaki—a portmanteau-like combo of the Japanese words for "mountain (yama) and "cape" (saki)—is the country's oldest whisky distillery and among the most acclaimed. Shinjiro Torii first launched the Yamazaki brand in 1923 from the forest-clad mountains on the periphery of Kyoto, using the area's natural mineral water.

It's since spawned numerous beloved bottles, including the Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2013 that was named World's Best Whisky in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2015. The exercise in spirits excellence continues to this day with fifth-generation Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo, who aimed to capitalize on the the magic of Mizurana oak with Yamazaki 25.

“My inspiration for Yamazaki 25 was the Yamazaki 1984 statement that was awarded the ultimate recognition of the Supreme Champion Spirit at the International Spirits Challenge in 2010,” said Fukuyo.

“We went back to the key component whiskies of Yamazaki. We deliberately chose to feature the depth and profound nature of the notable Japanese Mizunara Oak. For in its meticulous balance with the American and Spanish Oak, Yamazaki’s signature multi-layered taste profile and complex aroma is accentuated.”

See the official tasting notes below:

 • Color: Amber
 • Nose: Mizunara spiced notes of incense, followed by a complex bouquet of dried kaki persimmon and satsuma orange notes.
 • Palate: Mizunara sandalwood notes that open and deepen into complex layers of dried kaki persimmon subtle sweetness, tart yuzu notes with gentle shoga ginger spicy notes
 • Finish: Profound long finish of Mizunara spiced subtly sweet and tart wood notes that remain with lingering smoky accents.

Presented with label handcrafted with mulberry Echizen paper, Yamazaki 25 Single Malt Whisky launches soon in the U.S. with a $2,000. If you're having trouble hunting down a bottle, contact House of Suntory here

As Britney Spears' battle to dissolve an oppressive conservatorship rages on, the pop star and mother of two dropped a pair of racy topless Instagram posts.

The more recent of the eye-popping 'grams shows Spears in cutoff denim bottoms with her head cocked back—twinkling star emojis keep the image SFW.

Over a half million followers and counting liked the post as celebs sounded off with approval in the comments section.

“Sliving Sis!,” friend Paris Hilton wrote per the New York Post, while Jersey Shore star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi added “Gimme gimme moreee,” in reference to Spears’ hit 2007 single.

The other sultry snap in question, posted two days earlier, shows Spears in a similar pose with a hand bra covering the most explicit bits. Nearly 3 million fans evidently agreed with Hilton's "That's hot" comment, including Jersey Shore alum Jenni "JWoww" Farley.

As te details of "Slave 4 U" singer's 13-year-long conservatorship emerged following a dramatic courtroom testimony, other famous friends including Justin Timberlake, Halsey, and Mariah Carey have called for the court appointment to end.

But Spears' younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, hasn't been as supportive. The Post notes that Britney called out Jamie Lynn in a vehement Instagram caption alongside an image that reads, "Take me as I am or kiss my ass, eat shit, and step on Legos."

“I don’t like that my sister showed up at an awards show and performed MY SONGS to remixes,” Spears wrote, adding, “My so-called support system hurt me deeply !!!!"

The “Slave 4 U” singer also said she would not be performing “on any stages any time soon” while her father, Jamie Spears, was still in control of her estate.

Spears added, “I’d much rather share videos YES from my living room instead of onstage in Vegas."

<![CDATA[5 Questions to Ask When Choosing a CBD Brand]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=news/5-questions-to-ask-when-choosing-a-cbd-brandhttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=news/5-questions-to-ask-when-choosing-a-cbd-brandTue, 27 Jul 2021 09:00:00 GMT

By Jim Higdon

As a former journalist who co-founded his own CBD business, I’ve learned plenty about CBD products, both good and bad. Every lesson I learned as a journalist covering the cannabis industry, I applied to the decisions we made when creating CBD products for Cornbread Hemp

Based on my experiences both as a journalist and entrepreneur, here are five questions that consumers must ask to select a CBD brand that reflects their values.

How much THC is in that CBD oil?

Many CBD consumers think that hemp does not contain any THC and equate it to “industrial hemp,” when, in reality, hemp is the same plant as marijuana, just with a low amount of THC — but not zero. “Full spectrum” CBD products include a legal amount of THC, not above 0.3 percent.

Beware of CBD products that claim to be THC-free, whether made from “broad spectrum” or CBD isolate. They appear to be less effective and may not even protect a user from testing positive in drug test.

What’s that CBD oil made from?

CBD comes from the flower of the hemp plant, but many CBD products are made from “whole plant” formulations that also include the stalk, stems, and leaves—none of which contain CBD. Fortunately, there are better options.

Have you heard of Flower-Only™ CBD products? Flower-Only™ is the new standard in CBD quality. Most CBD consumers think that the only “full spectrum” option is “whole plant,” but that’s not true. These two terms have become associated with each other only because a better full spectrum option didn’t exist before Flower-Only™ was introduced.

Who regulates that CBD product?

The FDA has yet to regulate hemp-derived CBD extract as a dietary supplement. The US Hemp Authority certifies products to the standard it hopes the FDA will approve in the future. However, this certification allows for GMO seeds and pesticide use, and it does not check for use of irradiation or sewage sludge in the farming process.

The USDA organic program is the gold standard for certification. For the highest quality, look for CBD products with the USDA organic seal.

Is that CBD product lab tested?

Don’t trust a CBD brand that doesn’t allow consumers to see third-party lab results before purchase. Make sure a CBD product is tested for cannabinoid potency, terpenes, pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, and biological contaminants. These tests should be available on the company’s website, and accessible in a retail setting by a QR code on the packaging.

Is that CBD brand authentic?

If the ownership of a CBD brand isn’t crystal clear on the company’s “About” page, then beware. If the brand hasn’t been reviewed by major publishers, then beware. If the products aren’t protected against counterfeiting, then beware.

Most CBD brands are “white labeled” from factory producers. Those brands have no relationship with their farmers, have no idea where their CBD comes from, and are buying formulations straight off the laboratory shelf. Those “white label” products aren’t worth it.

At Cornbread Hemp, we do our best to provide products that answer these questions in the most satisfactory ways. That’s why we are a family-owned company that offers Flower-Only™, full spectrum, USDA organic CBD products, made from hemp grown sustainably in Kentucky on certified organic farms. If you can find another brand that meets these standards, then that’s a good brand you can trust.

Jim Higdon is co-founder of Cornbread Hemp. He is a native of Kentucky, and holds degrees from Centre College, Brown University, and Columbia University. Jim published Cornbread Mafia in 2012, which led to a journalism career covering Kentucky for the Washington Post and cannabis policy for POLITICO.

Before France shockingly busted Team USA's 25-game Olympic basketball winning streak dating back to 2004, a freaky robot took to the court at halftime to drain buckets from different distances at the Tokyo Games.

As Hypebeast reports, the Toyota CUE 3 is the latest version of the AI-driven machine that set the Guinness World Record for the most consecutive free throws by a humanoid robot at 2,020 successful shots in 2019.

While there wasn't time to outdo that figure, the 6-foot-10-inch basket terminator easily sunk a free throw, three-pointer and a half-court shot, sending the ball to the net with near-perfect arches at each attempt.

For Team USA fans, CUE 3 served as a distraction amid a head-scratching defeat that accounted for only the Americans sixth loss in 144 Olympic basketball games all-time, according to NBA.com. Down by 7 at halftime, Team USA rallied back to create a 10-point lead in the third quarter that was ultimately wasted.

Among the most incredibly disappointing moments came in the game's final four minutes, during which an American possession saw stars including Zach LaVine, Kevin Durant and Jrue Holiday miss five consecutive shots, per ESPN

Team USA will likely have to win their final two pool-play games with Iran and the Czech Republic to reach the medal round.

Perhaps CUE 3 deserves a spot on the bench?

<![CDATA[Watch Teaser Trailer For Zack Snyder’s 'Army of the Dead' Prequel 'Army Of Thieves']]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/watch-teaser-trailer-zack-snyder-army-of-the-dead-army-of-thieveshttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/watch-teaser-trailer-zack-snyder-army-of-the-dead-army-of-thievesMon, 26 Jul 2021 15:14:49 GMT

Zack Snyder isn't done with strange armies. His Army of the Dead was a big hit for Netflix so now he's coming back with a prequel, Army of Thieves, set before the events in the Dave Bautista Plus Zombie Tigers in Vegas action flick released on the streaming service in May.

Snyder's new flick isn't what you'd expect from a zombie movie prequel. There's no exploration of how the undead outbreak occurred, apparently, there's just good old-fashioned heist flick fun.

Here's the Netflix synopsis:

In this prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, small-town bank teller Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer) gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.

If you haven't seen Army of the Dead yet, maybe wait and watch it after this movie. Dieter (Schweighöfer) appears to have a principal role in Army of Thieves so events in Dead might ruin the fun, maybe. No spoilers, though.

Army of Thieves doesn't have an exact release date yet but is set to begin streaming in the fall of 2021.

Jennifer Lopez just turned 52, and no, we don't believe it either. It might be buying the best nutrition and fitness advice possible in addition to being a dancer, it might be genetics, maybe witchcraft, who knows? But Jenny from the Block isn't showing her age at all, and never has.

J. Lo knows how to celebrate, too—maybe most of us would celebrate if we arrived at 52 looking 26. She marked her July 24th birthdate with some stunning selfies, including video, and a single photo of her in an embrace with Ben Affleck

So in one photoset, she reminded the world of her timeless charisma and made her renewed relationship with Affleck—they first met in 2001 and their relationship went public in 2003—"Instagram official."

This comes at a good time in general for Lopez. She's in Maxim's Hot 100 yet again. She released a single recorded with rapper Reggi El Auténtico, "Cambia el Paso" (Change the Step) in early July, is considering a Las Vegas residency, and she and Affleck are doing so well they've been touring LA mansions together

Meanwhile, Lopez's ex Alex Rodriguez is doing Tik-Tok dances on his yacht.

Nice to see everyone having a good time.

Of course, it would be easy to do a retrospective of J. Lo looking incredible in swimsuits going back a quarter-century, but that seems cruel to everyone else in their 50s and it might crash photo-hosting websites around the world.

So enjoy some more J. Lo below, and resist the urge to high-five or flip off Ben Affleck. Who hasn't had that one ex that you realize much later was more of a keeper than you thought at the time?

Well, very few have ever had an ex like Jennifer Lopez. Looking at her Instagram, it's easy to believe a lot of guys' hearts just couldn't take the heat.

<![CDATA[Tom Cruise's Classic 'Risky Business' Porsche Can Now Be Yours]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=rides/tom-cruises-risky-business-porsche-928-can-now-be-yourshttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=rides/tom-cruises-risky-business-porsche-928-can-now-be-yoursMon, 26 Jul 2021 10:00:00 GMT

As Tom Cruise's teenaged Joel Goodsen did his iconic underwear dance to Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock & Roll" in 1983's Risky Business, there was a pristine 1979 Porsche 928 sitting in the garage of his parents' garage. That very car—or at least, one of three piloted on the set of the Paul Brickman-directed coming-of-age comedy—can be yours courtesy of Barrett-Jackson auction house.

The German luxury grand tourer definitely achieved icon status during its nearly two-decade production run through 1995, but never reached the popularity of its rear-engine stablemate, the 911. According to Barrett-Jackson, Brickman considered Porsche's most recognizable ride "too mundane" to hero on the silver screen. Hindsight is 20/20.

The Scottsdale-based auction house also reports that this is the German exotic that got the most screen and seat time. Most notably, it was one of two used in the signature chase scene, the conclusion of which sees Cruise turn to his female passenger and utter the marque's period-correct slogan, "Porsche. There is not substitute."

As for specs, the 928's 4.5-liter V8 sits over the front axle, sending 219 horsepower to the rear wheels through the very five-speed gearbox that taught Cruise how to drive a stick. Hitting 60 mph takes 6.8 seconds from a standstill, and top speed is billed at 143 mph—formidable for GTs of the time. This particular example sports 16-inch offset five-hole aluminum wheels and a cork-on-cork-colored leather interior.

Barrett-Jackson has more details on provenance, which includes a stint at LA's famed Petersen Automotive Museum and a connection to Steve McQueen's son.

This 928 has resided in a climate-controlled environment in a private collection, where it has been meticulously cared for. Originally painted green, the 928 was refinished in gold for the movie, and later wore white. Following the film’s production, the car returned to California, where it was discovered by Johnsen and returned to its original screen appearance.

Marking its importance in Porsche history, the 928 has been featured at numerous museums and displays. This car was a centerpiece at Porsche Cars North America for a year and was part of the Petersen Automotive Museum’s influential Porsche Effect Exhibit. While at the Petersen, Chad McQueen – son of legendary racer and actor Steve McQueen – sat in this car.

The 928 also features signatures from several members of the film’s cast – including Bronson Pinchot (“Barry”), Joe Pantoliano (“Guido”), Curtis Armstrong (“Miles”) and Francine Locke (“Shower Girl”) – and comes with several images of the car on set covered in camera rigging equipment.

If you're interested in owning the Risky Business Porsche 928, click here to become a bidder in Barrett-Jackson's inaugural Houston auction.

<![CDATA[Jake Paul: I Want Conor McGregor and Canelo Alvarez After Tyron Woodley Fight]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=sports/jake-paul-says-he-wants-conor-mcgregor-and-canelo-alvarez-after-tyron-woodley-fighthttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=sports/jake-paul-says-he-wants-conor-mcgregor-and-canelo-alvarez-after-tyron-woodley-fightMon, 26 Jul 2021 10:00:00 GMT

Jake Paul has always had a soft spot for "The Sweet Science."

Long before the 24-year-old Ohioan earned his 20 million YouTube subscribers, long before he appeared on the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark, long before his content generated 2 billion views on the defunct social media platform Vine, he was watching boxing. Lots of it—and some old UFC fights—with his father. He even attended a local MMA show when he was about nine, and fondly remembers everything from the walkouts to the knockouts.

It wasn't until Jake and his brother Logan Paul, also a social media superstar-turned boxing attraction, were called out by two rival YouTubers—KSI and Deji—that he ever thought about strapping on the gloves himself.

"There were two YouTubers that wanted to fight my brother and I, and we learned to fight in a period of like six months thereafter," Paul tells Maxim.com, looking back on his 2018 amateur boxing debut.

"Everyone wanted to see the Paul brothers lose, so we hired a professional boxing coach and took on these two YouTubers. It became the biggest amateur boxing event in history—which is kind of hilarious—and that's kind of where it started."

That's where it started for Paul, but not where it ended.

Since bombing Deji in front of millions of crazed teenagers, Paul has dedicated his life to boxing, relocating to the swelter of Puerto Rico with the explicit purpose of escaping the distractions of Los Angeles and learning to fight.

The results of that commitment are apparent: In the last two years, Paul has earned a trio of violent knockout victories over YouTuber AnEsonGib, former NBA star Nate Robinson, and former UFC welterweight contender Ben Askren—all in professional bouts.

Paul and Woodley face off ahead of their August 28 pay-per-view fight.

On August 29, he'll look to extend his highlight reel at the expense of former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.

Woodley, 39, is widely regarded as one of the best 170-pounders in MMA history, revered both for his wrestling and his cage-rattling knockout power. The former champ lost his last four MMA bouts, but Paul feels his adversary is as lethal as ever.

"He's very, very dangerous," Paul said. "The power always stays. We've seen it with Mike Tyson at [almost] 60 years old. He's hitting heavy bags and knocking them off the chains. Tyron Woodley is still explosive and people forget in his last fight, he had Vicente Luque stumbling and wobbling across the cage [before he lost].

"People can say whatever they want, but Tyron's been boxing and striking five times as long as I have. This is a big challenge for me and I know that going into it. We're not taking this fight lightly at all."

If Paul is able to defeat Woodley, he'll begin the hunt for another opponent with a suitable blend of skill and celebrity. He's not sure who that opponent will be, but remains hopeful that he'll one day share the ring with struggling former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor.

Paul knocked out former UFC welterweight contender Ben Askren on April 17, 2021.

"I'm sort of thinking about it one fight at a time," he said. "Anything is possible after my brother fought Floyd Mayweather. I could fight anybody after this.

"I think there's a 90 percent chance of [the McGregor fight] happening. That's the biggest fight that Conor can do. It'd be the biggest payday for him."

Paul has also brazenly set his sights on Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, the biggest star in boxing today, and one of the sport's pound-for-pound kings. He admits that potential megafight is likely some distance away—three years is the timeframe he's envisioning—but is confident he'll have the size and ultimately the skill to topple the Mexican juggernaut.

"I'm very confident," he said of a fight with Canelo. "He's a killer at 168 pounds, but people forget that I naturally walk around at about 205, so there's a big weight difference. There's a big height advantage.

"Canelo hasn't fought someone who has really challenged him in the last couple of fights," he added. "They've all been easy guys who just sort of fall on their ass.

"I just need to continue on the path that I'm on now: Getting experience under my belt, fighting tougher and tougher people as my career goes on, continuing to stay in the gym every single day, and continuing to be the pay-per-view star that I am and selling tens of millions of dollars in pay-per-views. At the end of the day, this is a business. If Canelo sees that, he's going to want to get in on the business."

Paul's calls for fights with stars like McGregor and Canelo have not gone over well with fight fans, who call him arrogant, deluded, and much worse. Recently, however, he's shown a new side of his character—and it's one that some fans and even some fighters seem to be taking a shine to: The hyperconfident YouTube transplant has been talking to every journalist and social media follower who will listen about the problems with the way professional fighters are paid—particularly fighters in the UFC.

"Recently this study came out from Goldman-Sachs, saying the UFC only pays fighters 10 percent of the UFC's total earnings, whereas in other leagues like the NBA, the NFL, the players get paid 50 percent," Paul said.

"That's a crazy, massive difference, and in the NBA, you're not risking your life. You can die in the ring. That's how I see it. It's so backwards. There's a problem that needs to be fixed here. It's a monopoly that the UFC is running. They basically sign these fighters to career-long contracts, and they have no other choice, and they're just bound to oblige and be a puppet."

Fans will probably always be divided on Jake Paul. Some will come around when they see his dedication to the sport of boxing or when they hear him go to bat for fighters in the UFC and elsewhere. Others will remain repelled by his bravado, his showmanship, his fast-track to the top of the boxing world.

Paul is resigned to the fact that he won't win over everyone, but as he prepares to take on a former UFC champion in just his fourth professional fight, he seems hopeful that people will come to see him the way he seems himself: as a lifelong fight fan with an appetite for challenges and the resources to make those challenges happen.

"I know where they're coming from," he said of his naysayers. "I really do. People want me to go out there and fight Anthony Joshua and get knocked out. That's what they want to see. They don't want to see me slowly challenge myself. Everyone wants instant gratification these days.

"I would just say [to them], look, nobody can name who Floyd Mayweather fought in his fourth pro fight, or who Muhammad Ali fought in his fourth pro fight, or who Mike Tyson fought in his fourth pro fight.

"No one was even watching them in their fourth fights. There's added pressure on me because of my name and celebrity coming into this sport, but I like it. Pressure creates diamonds. I'm just going to continue to challenge myself.

"I'm going up against a five-time UFC champion known for his knockout power. I don't know what more people could want from me."

Among the boldest—and perhaps even strangest—reimagining of the Converse Chuck 70s was born of the sneaker brand's latest collaboration with fashion designer Rick Owens.

The two standout elements of the DRKSHDW TURBODRK Chuck 70 are anything but subtle. Owens' toe is squared off and split laterally, creating a line of separation that continues rearward throughout the outsole.

"I have been presenting (and personally wearing) platform boots in the past few seasons that have a square toe grill,” Owens told Hypebeast of the square toe. “Distorting the iconic Converse toe into this shape drew it into my current world.”

His second major contribution is the massively extended and boldly branded tongue, which heightens the shoe's profile significantly. If the high-top version is too much shoe, the DRKSHDW TURBODRK design is also available as an Ox cut.

“I will be embedded into the social fabric in a new way by aligning myself with a global brand like Converse,” Owens explained of his decision to collaborate.

“This might allow me to share my enthusiasm for a more tolerant and inclusive personal aesthetic to more people. I want to help release the freak kids the way the Converse-wearing Ramones did for me.”

The Converse x Rick Owens DRKSHDW TURBODRK Chuck 70 drops globally on both the brand and designer's webstores on July 27.

<![CDATA[Watch the Insane Trailer For Cannes Palme d’Or Winner 'Titane']]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/insane-trailer-cannes-palme-dor-winner-titanehttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/insane-trailer-cannes-palme-dor-winner-titaneSun, 25 Jul 2021 16:27:46 GMT

The top prize at the Cannes Film Festival, the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) has in the past gone to movies like All That Jazz, the Coen Brothers' Barton Fink, and David Lynch's Wild at Heart. This year the award went to French filmmaker Julia Ducorneau's Titane, a flick you won't be able to figure out — at all — from the insane trailer above.

It's just 1:40, shorter than many trailers, but it seems longer. It also feels like watching a selection of dream images pulled from the brain of someone who got into some extremely good LSD.

The film centers around Alexia (Agathe Rousselle), a serial killer impregnated by a car who disguises her gender and goes incognito as a lonely fireman’s (Vincent Lindon) long-lost son.

There's the dancer getting extremely sexy on a car, seen in the still above, many strange flashing images of fire, a shaven-headed kid in some kind of metal truss, a shirtless older guy in distress, momentary snippets of characters in the nude, seen from a distance...it's clearly not the kind of movie to take your grandma to.

But it wasn't until after the Palmes d'Or win that the film's distributor, Neon, released anything like a synopsis. Here it is: "The film centers around Alexia (Agathe Rousselle), a serial killer impregnated by a car who disguises her gender and goes incognito as a lonely fireman’s (Vincent Lindon) long-lost son."

Variety's description of Titane doesn't necessarily make it sound down-to-earth:

The film [...] revolves around a woman who has sex with cars after growing up with a metal plate in her head from a car accident. The body-bending horror also features Garance Marillier, Laïs Salameh, Mara Cisse, Marin Judas, Diong-Kéba Tacu, Myriem Akheddiou, Bertrand Bonello and more.

Okay, then.

While movie critics tend to love anything that's radically new and doesn't adhere to the Hollywood playbook — which involves fairly predictable dramatic beats in even the glossiest-looking, arty films — it's hard to ignore the fact that many who have seen Titane so far have given it incredibly glowing reviews. Here are just a few comments from reviews collected at Rotten Tomatoes:

 • "Titane is gorgeous to look at, to listen to, to obsess over, and fetishize." — The Playlist
 • "The whole way home, I noticed my teeth were chattering from the adrenaline." — Vulture
 • "Titane is truly original, something 99.9 percent of films can't say about themselves, even if they're great." — Film School Rejects

Titane will hit theaters in all its apparently thrilling weirdness in limited release on October 1, 2021.

The 50 Best Places to Live in the U.S. The 10 Most Beautiful Cities to Visit in the United States. The Happiest Cities in the Country—Charleston, South Carolina ticks all the boxes and tops all the usual lists.

However, we would also call it one of the most gentlemanly cities in America, a side of the southern standout that doesn't get as much publicity. On a recent visit to town however, we made sure to document it.

Founded in 1670 and named in honor of King Charles II of England, Charleston blends interesting history, elegant architecture, loads of charm, and great food and drink. It's also home to lots of southern gentlemen and plenty of southern belles—such as Maxim's May/June 2021 cover star Maggie Rawlins—which makes things that much more attractive, and appealing for gents from elsewhere as well.

Explore Charleston

Here's a photo-heavy tour to get you in the right frame of mind for booking your own visit:

The Restoration

We began by checking into The Restoration, a captivating boutique hotel right off of the most iconic thoroughfare for sampling the best offerings in town, King Street.

Though it's a small property, which keeps things feeling more like a private residence, it has all the amenities of a major luxury hotel. It epitomizes the "New South" with luxurious suites and mixes contemporary style with a dose of local history and some very cool architectural elements.

The Restoration

The library at The Restoration was one of our favorite hangouts, with its marble fireplace, leather chesterfield sofas and amazing collection of Assouline coffee table books on everything from the French Riviera to Art Deco cocktails. Whether you're looking to lounge for a bit or catch up on some work, this is the spot.

The Restoration

Exposed brick, soaring ceilings and oversized windows lend the hotel extra warmth and character, with each space being slightly different, alleviating the cookie cutter effect you can get in even the top luxury hotel chains. Among its features is the The Watch Rooftop Kitchen & Spirits, with an amazing view of some of the city's top landmarks.

The Restoration

One of the best amenities by far is the host of in-room spa services by Amethyst Spa, which means you can get a deep-tissue massage in the comfort of your own suite, and order up refreshments afterwards. You can also refuel at The Rise Coffee Bar on the main floor, which brews up seasonal creations using beans from local roasteries.

The Restoration

The Restoration also boasts a picture-perfect rooftop pool, with alluring views over King Street and the surrounding neighborhood, the ideal spot to relax in the sun with a great craft cocktail from The Watch while you plan your next excursion into town.

The Darling Oyster Bar

And we'd recommend starting with a visit to The Darling Oyster Bar, on King Street off of Morris. Don't let the twee-sounding name fool you—this place has got some world-class seafood that's rivaled only by the quality of the rustic-meets-nautical design. What we really wanted to do was move right in.

The Darling Oyster Bar

As the restaurant notes, in order to enjoy the bounty of the sea on this level, you'd normally have to "drive to Beaufort to crack open a few oysters, score some fresh grouper from Charleston’s barrier islands, or overnight dozens of briny-sweet treats from other parts of the country." But The Darling has it all.

The Darling Oyster Bar

Menu standouts include the Lobster & King Crab Roll, baked oysters with a choice of locally-inspired toppings, and the eye-popping Seafood Plateau, which lets you sample all of the very freshest oceanic arrivals. To go along with it there is a great selection of local beer on tap as well as a well-curated wine and cocktail list.

Explore Charleston

When you're ready to get out on the water yourself, book in with Charleston Harbor Tours. Weather permitting, a sailboat cruise is the most gentlemanly way to explore. CHT has Charleston’s only three-masted tall ship, the 84-ft. schooner Pride, which is available for an afternoon dolphin sail, a two-hour sunset sail—beer and wine is available for purchase—and an adults-only full moon sail.

HarbourView Inn

If being by the water is a priority—and Charleston is known for its waterfront attractions on Charleston Harbor, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean—as well as comfort and style, then we'd highly recommend a stay at the newly renovated, and aptly named, HarbourView Inn

The elegant southern vibe offers the feel of a private manor house yet is adjacent to major downtown Charleston destinations like The Battery and Waterfront Park.

HarbourView Inn

The hotel is housed in a former 1930s indigo cotton warehouse, hence the incredible amount of character. HarbourView Inn was the first waterfront hotel in Charleston's Historic District and remains the leader of the pack, especially with the $1 million interior refresh by notable South Carolina-based interior designer, Jenny Keenan.

HarbourView Inn

Some rooms and suites have fireplaces and balconies, and beautiful views are par for the course, as are evocative architecture details in some rooms that connect you with the building's history.

HarbourView Inn

That's in addition to other luxe touches like custom furniture and upholstery, plush carpets from Fine Rugs of Charleston, and original work from local artists, with unique pieces dedicated to each room.

The property refresh also includes a refurbishment of HarbourView Inn’s highly-popular rooftop terrace, which is the only remaining private rooftop in the Historic District. There you'll find new custom outdoor furniture, and guests can take part in a complimentary wine and cheese hour every day. Just the thing to tide you over until your next culinary foray.

Which brings us to Husk. One of Charleston's most famous restaurants, and justly so, Husk (which also now has outposts in Savannah and Nashville as well) recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, and continues to rack up awards, adding to the 2010 Best Chef of the Southeast honors it initially scored from the James Beard Foundation.

These days Lowcountry native Travis Grimes reigns as Executive Chef, and he nightly "reinterprets the bounty of the surrounding area, exploring an ingredient-driven cuisine that begins in the rediscovery of heirloom products and redefines what it means to cook and eat in the South."

For a more casual dining experience, as well as direct access to Husk's incredible whiskey collection, we recommend dining in the historic brick building that houses the bar.

When a new day dawns, it's high time to go for a drive. And check out some of the extremely cool custom Land Rover Defenders built by Arkonik. In 2020, the UK-based brand opened Special Vehicle Operations (SVO), its new U.S. HQ in Charleston catering to those well off—and wise—enough to commission one of its bespoke creations. If you seem like you mean business, you can talk to them about test driving one of their mean machines.

Explore Charleston

If you don't have a proper southern gentleman's wardrobe of your own, this is the time to visit storied King Street clothier Ben Silver. A tribute to classic style, this British-influenced shop (currently open by appointment) has a beautiful array of sports and dress threads that will have you looking right at home amongst Charleston's landed gentry. Even better, it's right across the street from the city's oldest, and best, wine bar, Bin 152.

Explore Charleston

Hungry again? We thought as much. So we'll round out with a few eclectic options, starting with the stunning Leon's Poultry & Oyster Shop. Leon's specializes in fried chicken, raw oysters, soft serve, great beer, rosé on tap, frozen G&T’s, grower champagne—the connoisseur's pairing with fried chicken—and more, all in a super-cool old garage that's been refurbished and now has a wood-burning fireplace and a collection of vintage nautical art.

Explore Charleston

Leon's is in an up-and-coming part of Downtown Charleston that's quickly becoming known for its amazing bars, restaurants, and cool industrial conversions. So you might want to plan to visit a few other spots like Graft Wine Shop & Wine Bar, and Maison, while you're at it.

Explore Charleston

If it's healthier fare you're after, head to Basic Kitchen, conveniently located right across the street from The Restoration. A standout for lunch or dinner, the focus is on seasonal, local produce and the best available ingredients, and diverse flavors inspired by dishes from around the world. Along with the wild-caught seafood and sustainably-raised meat, there's a kickass cocktail menu that also features organic flourishes.

Citrus Club

Speaking of cocktails, the perfect place to wind up our tour is on the roof of The Dewberry hotel, at the Citrus Club. It's seats are some of the most coveted in town, thanks to the excellent menu of drinks and snacks and views that stretch for miles in all directions—it's Charleston's highest, and hippest, rooftop bar.

Citrus Club

Citrus Club is also one of the most stylish, photo-worthy venues in Charleston, but it doesn't feel too designer-y. Kick back with a killer cocktail like the Long Time Listener, made with Fortaleza reposado tequila, St. Germain, dry curaçao, lemon syrup, lemon juice, and Peychaud’s Bitters (a nod to the South's cocktail heritage).

Citrus Club

And you won't go hungry either, with treats like the Dewberry burger, with onions bordelaise, Emmenthal cheese, and vegetable slaw on a seeded potato bun; and crispy Piña Colada Shrimp with an addictive sweet and sour sauce that serves as the perfect counterpoint to the bartender's concoctions. Bottoms up.

<![CDATA[Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Says Bitcoin Could Be Key To World Peace]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=news/twitter-and-square-ceo-jack-dorsey-bitcoin-world-peacehttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=news/twitter-and-square-ceo-jack-dorsey-bitcoin-world-peaceFri, 23 Jul 2021 11:05:00 GMT
Jack Dorsey

When billionaires get together to chat about anything, it seems like one thing they might not acknowledge is having billions of dollars in the bank automatically lifts you out of everyday reality. Some billionaires live in a reality where you might — like Twitter and Square CEO Jack Dorsey — believe that Bitcoin could one day save us all.

CNBC reports that Dorsey participated in a Bitcoin webinar on July 21 called "The B Word," which also included Tesla CEO Elon Musk. This was where he revealed just how optimistic he is about crypto's inherent promise. Here's more from CNBC:

“My hope is that it creates world peace or helps create world peace,” Dorsey said during a “The B Word” webinar on Wednesday.

“We have all these monopolies off balance and the individual doesn’t have power and the amount of cost and distraction that comes from our monetary system today is real and it takes away attention from the bigger problems,” Dorsey added. Tesla CEO Elon Musk and ARK Invest founder, CEO and CIO Cathie Wood were also speakers on the panel.

“All these distractions that we have to deal with on a daily basis take away from those bigger goals that effect every single person on this planet and increasingly so. You fix that foundational level and everything above it improves in such a dramatic way. It’s going to be long-term but my hope is definitely peace,” the founder of Twitter added.

This actually isn't new for Dorsey. He's been pretty gung ho on Bitcoin for years. As CNBC noted, he was saying three years ago that it would end up being a single world currency.

Dorsey's Square also has substantial Bitcoin holdings and on July 15, 2021, he tweeted that Square will launch a new business for "decentralized financial services."

During the same webinar, Elon Musk didn't make quite as much news as Dorsey, but he did state that Tesla — which accepted Bitcoin as payment for a couple of months until he changed his mind due to the negative effects Bitcoin "mining" can have on the environment — "most likely" will begin taking the cryptocurrency as payment again.

"As long as there is a conscious effort to move Bitcoin miners toward renewables, then Tesla can support that," Musk said.

The overall takeaway might be that Bitcoin is good for billionaires. And optimistic as Dorsey sounded about crypto's potential, it's worth remembering that he and at least one of his businesses would do very well if cryptocurrency adoption became truly global.

London-based menswear brand JW Anderson is giving two longstanding pairs of Persol sunglasses colorful limited-edition updates and an arty portrait campaign to match.

The classic shape of the Persol 649 shades certainly needs no introduction, having maintained an icon status since actor Marcello Mastroianni donned them in the 1961 classic movie Divorce, Italian Style.

But JW Anderson's almost dissonant take on the frames renders them like never before in one-of-a-kind recycled acetates that mottles blue with amber and red, brown with pink, and different tortoise-inspired greens.

The second pair, the Persol 0009, looks like something from this century, but the four-lens design actually dates back to 1935, according to Inside Hook. JW Anderson sought to create juxtaposition with two-tone frames coated in blue and pink, black and white, dark and light green, and orange and light blue.

To showcase the collab, photographer Tyler Mitchell snapped eight tonal portraits of models topped with "sculptural hair creations" created by Jamaican-American hairstylist Benjamin Bruno.

“I really wanted to work with Tyler. He is such an incredible artist and photographer. I wanted images that became kind of poetic miniatures, almost like windows," said Anderson.

"I love what Jawara does as well. His hairstyles are amazing and helped creature this incredible portraiture that you somehow can’t place in time."

Priced at $261 for the 649 and $417 for the 0009, the Persol x JW Anderson collection is available to purchase online now.

Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe

Mercedes-Benz is the latest marque to commit to engineering an-electric fleet by decade's end.

Stuttgart's luxury car stalwart deeply detailed its electrification strategy for the next decade, which includes a massive $47 billion R&D investment into battery electric technology from 2022 to 2030.

Mercedes already had plans to incorporate partially electric powertrains into its performance-geared AMG C-Class by switching from a 4.0-liter V8 to a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four plugin hybrid, as Car and Driver reports. This new announcement looks to the year 2025, at which point all new launched vehicle platforms will be electric-only.

Three of the platforms already have names and implementations. An MB.EA modular system will be tailored to all medium-to-large passenger cars. AMG.EA will take over as the performance electric powertrain, and VAN.EA will cover the purpose-made vans and light commercial vehicles that are particularly prominent in Europe.

A key part of the Merc's transition involves the acquisition of UK-based electric motor company YASA and its axial flux configuration, which promises more efficiency and power in a smaller package when compared to radial motors. On the battery front, Mercedes will turn to other unspecified European partners to produce the next generation of cells and modules. California's SilaNano will also aid in developing batteries with silicon-carbon composite anodes to increase energy density.

But the most immediate glimpse into the German automaker's electric future will come this year with the release of its first all-electric car. The 2022 EQS will powered by a 107.8 kWh battery in either a 329-hp rear-wheel or 516-hp all-wheel drive setup, according to C&D. A new Plug & Charge charging network that allows customers to top off the batteries without extra payment and authentication steps will debut alongside the flagship EV.

Next up will be the 2022 world premiere of the ambitious Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX, featuring a ICE-rivaling 621-mile maximum range. Experts from Mercedes- Benz's F1 High Performance Powertrain division (HPP) are working to meet that lofty goal so those technological advances can be applied in the new electric architectures.

"The EV shift is picking up speed - especially in the luxury segment, where Mercedes-Benz belongs," said Ola Kallenius, CEO of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG

"This step marks a profound reallocation of capital. Thanks to our highly qualified and motivated workforce, I am convinced that we will be successful in this exciting new era."

There's nothing basic about Megan Fox's latest mag spread. The 35-year-old actress, model and lingerie designer fronted Basic Magazine's new issue in a heart-shaped bra by Paskal.

Stylist Maeve Reilly loaned personal pair of high-waisted Good American jeans to round out the alluring look.

“Jeans off my body for this look!,” Reilly revealed on Instagram alongside a tearful laugh emoji. “Legit will do anything for my girls and to get the shot!”

A variety of other stunning outfits donned by Fox were posted to Basic's official Instagram page, including an ultra-cutout white dress by Monot, a strapless red latex number by Hakan Akkaya, and a low-cut Magda Butrym bodysuit-and-blazer combo completed by Alexandre Birman stilettos—no bottoms necessary.

According to the New York Post, Reilly was also behind the barely-there Thierry Mugler gown that the Transformers temptress rocked on the red carpet at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards alongside boyfriend Machine Gun Kelly.

But it wasn't an easy sell for Fox, who was coming off straight off an ayahuasca-induced trip "to hell."

“My stylist was like, ‘We want you to wear this’ and I was like, ‘I was just talking to God in the jungle, I’m not ready to wear that,’” Fox reportedly said recently. Ultimately, she convinced herself to don the racy dress with the assistance of some smoke.

“Fuck it," she added. "I’ll just have some Peruvian tobacco, I’ll wear this thing."

After updating the 61-tool Champ XXL Swiss Army Knife in classic red earlier this year, Victorinox is rolling out an especially upscale special edition of the smaller Swiss Champ that's aesthetically darker and more suited to everyday carry.

The star of the multi-tool is the large blade rendered in a "Bjorkman's Twist"-pattern Damast, the shorthand used by Victorinox in reference to intricate high-strength Damascus steel. The knife's wavy patterns hues play perfectly with the handle's, which is constructed from forged carbon scales in multiple shades of gray instead of red thermoplastic.

With an upgrade from standard Inox Steel to Damast and the use of carbon instead of plastic scales, the knife still features all 29 of the Champ's tools, including:

<![CDATA['Dune' New Trailer: Timothee Chalamet Sees Zendaya In His Dreams]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/timothee-chalamet-zenday-new-official-dune-trailerhttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/timothee-chalamet-zenday-new-official-dune-trailerThu, 22 Jul 2021 15:50:53 GMT

"There's something awakening in my mind," says Timothee Chalamet's Paul Atreides at one point in this new trailer for Dune, and it's clear that Denis Villeneuve's version of the Frank Herbert sci-fi epic is not shying away from the original tale's mystical overtones.

Zendaya's (she plays "Chani") is the voice we hear over much of the trailer, and this along with multiple striking visuals adds to the ethereal vibe.

Josh Brolin and Oscar Isaac in "Dune."

The new Dune, however, also has to appeal to a 21st-century audience that appreciates certain conventions, like wisecracking tough guys. Here that's Jason Momoa, who plays the awesomely named Duncan Idaho. Of course, he gets in some of the best lines in the trailer.

If you're not familiar with any past versions of the story — the Herbert novels or David Lynch's eerily beautiful but otherwise justly forgotten 1984 version, here's the Warner Bros. synopsis:

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.

As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

If anything, the story breakdown hints that Dune is far from a stuffy space opera, but — if done right — a tale that's especially relevant to the world today.

In addition to Chalamet, Zendaya, and Momoa, Dune also stars Oscar Isaac, Dave Bautista, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, and Stellan Skarsgård.

According to Warner Bros., Dune is "slated to be released in select theaters in 2D and 3D and IMAX and on HBO Max on October 22, 2021."

Thirty-one days after release, the movie will also be available on HBO Max.

Following the release of a Black Album-sonically seasoned whiskey, Metallica continues to celebrate 30 years of the classic album with a pair of limited-edition Vans.

Longtime Metallica album and merch artist Pushead, who's rendered numerous gnarly designs for the band since the late 1980s, contributed the duplicitous cranium design originally inspired by the chugging Black Album single "Sad But True."

The pair of weathered skulls are featuring prominently on the the inner and outer quarter panels of the Vans Sk8-Hi. For the Vans Classic Slip-On, the skulls are split between the left and right shoes' toeboxes.

Both silhouettes set the hardcore illustration against a graphic blue shatter design alongside silver Metallica lettering and a printed Metallica logo on the heel stay, as Hypebeast notes.

The Vans x Metallica collaboration follows a string of Black Album 30th anniversary celebrations. Along with the aforementioned whiskey, 53 artists including Miley Cyrus, Jon Pardi, Weezer, Corey Taylor and Portugal. The Man. are recording covers of all 12 Black Album songs for The Metallica Blacklist.

The collaborative release streams September 10 and arrives on CD and vinyl October 1. All proceeds will be donated to charity.

Until then, Vans Family members can cop the Metallica-themed Sk8-Hi and Classic Slip-On on July 25 before the collection hits the band's webstore a day later.

<![CDATA[Dwayne Johnson Responds To Vin Diesel's 'Fast & Furious' Comments: 'I Laughed Hard']]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/dwayne-johnson-responds-to-vin-diesels-fast-furious-comments-i-laughed-hardhttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=entertainment/dwayne-johnson-responds-to-vin-diesels-fast-furious-comments-i-laughed-hardThu, 22 Jul 2021 14:20:43 GMT

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is no fan of his former "Fast & Furious" co-star Vin Diesel. The world's highest-paid actor responded to Diesel's recent comments about their rocky relationship — in which VD spoke about having to give his co-stars “a lot of tough love” — with a fresh diss of his fellow action star.

“I laughed and I laughed hard,” Johnson said in a new interview with the Hollywood Reporter. “I think everyone had a laugh at that. And I’ll leave it at that. And that I’ve wished them well. I wish them well on Fast 9. And I wish them the best of luck on Fast 10 and Fast 11 and the rest of the Fast & Furious movies they do that will be without me.”

The musclebound movie icons have been feuding since finishing The Fate of the Furious in 2016. While filming, Johnson made damning comments about several unnamed male co-stars, famously calling them “candy asses."

“Some conduct themselves as stand-up men and true professionals, while others don’t,” he wrote in an Instagram post.

“The ones that don’t are too chicken shit to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling — you’re right.”

It was heavily rumored that The Rock, 49, was taking aim at Diesel for constantly being late to set, criticizing his co-stars’ acting skills and being difficult to work with, according to the New York Post.

Diesel, 54, later told Men’s Health that this harsh criticism was purposeful.

“I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing,” he said. “It was a tough character to embody, the Hobbs character. My approach at the time was a lot of tough love to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be.”

So there you have it! The Rock and Vin Diesel still don't like each other, and The Rock is absolutely done with Fast & Furious movies. He didn't return for the recent F9, and you can bet he won't appear in the high-octane franchise's upcoming sequels, with director Justin Lin to return for both.

In related news, check out Diesel's diabolical Dodge Charger from F9, which can now be yours.

Scottie Pippen on his home court

NBA Hall of Famer and six-time champion Scottie Pippen wants you to stay over and watch the Olympics in his home theater. So -- either you're besties with the big man or a very lucky Airbnb customer looking for a cool place to stay in Chicago.

Okay, for most of us, it's the second choice. That's right, Pippen's Highland Park home will be available on Airbnb for just $92 a night on August 2, 4, or 6, 2021. That price isn't just a great deal; it references 1992, the year Pippen and his fellow dream team members won gold in Barcelona.

Up to four people at a time will have a chance to stay at Pippen's home for one of those August nights. The dates are significant -- they've been established to let Pippen's lucky guests watch the gold and silver medal games at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Pippen's Airbnb listing is written as if in his own words, so let Scottie tell you more:

When you enter my home, you’ll step into [sports] history - finding Olympic Games memorabilia from my time as a U.S. Olympian, plus items from Team USA’s 2020 Medal Stand Collection that you can take home with you!

During your overnight stay, you and up to three guests have the opportunity to watch the magic of the Olympic Games basketball competitions on NBCUniversal’s broadcast networks and streaming services from my home theater, and channel your inner athlete on my indoor basketball court.

That's the tip of the iceberg. Here's more of what to expect if you snag one of those nights:

 • Pippen will provide a "virtual greeting upon check-in," meaning via video, sounds like.
 • Guests can shoot some hoops on Scottie Pippen's very own indoor basketball court.
 • Chill out in Pippen's "personal movie theater and watch the Olympic Games on NBCUniversal’s broadcast networks and streaming services during the days of the stays, including men’s and women’s basketball."
 • Hey, weather permitting, you could even "relax outdoors by the pool, complete with an outdoor television so you don’t miss a moment of the Olympic Games."
 • Guests will be able to play in Pippen's own personal game arcade or "take a breather after hitting the court in the indoor sauna."
 • Airbnb guests will also get "exclusive access to view Olympic Games memorabilia, including items from Team USA’s 2020 Medal Stand Collection that guests can take home with them."

Pippen's listing is -- of course -- an Airbnb promotion. We're pretty sure he doesn't need the money. Airbnb is an Olympic and Paralympic partner in the Tokyo Olympics, which are technically the 2020 games delayed by a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bookings for Scottie Pippen's Highland Park getaway begin at 1 p.m. EDT on Thursday, July 22.

The 2020 Summer Olympics opening ceremony is Friday, July 23, 2021, beginning at 6:55 a.m. EDT in the United States. Find out more about watching live at NBCOlympics.com

<![CDATA[The Timex x Todd Snyder MK1 Bootcamp Is Inspired by a Classic U.S. Marines Field Watch]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=style/todd-snyder-x-timex-mk1-bootcamp-celebrates-10-years-of-collaborationhttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=style/todd-snyder-x-timex-mk1-bootcamp-celebrates-10-years-of-collaborationThu, 22 Jul 2021 10:02:00 GMT

To celebrate a decade of Timex collaborations, menswear powerhouse Todd Snyder dug deep into Timex archives to recreate a tough field watch originally made for U.S. Marines.

Snyder's new take on the MK1 Bootcamp watch draws on from a very specific Timex reference with a Mil-Spec W-4637 4B specification. Produced only for two months in 1982, the model was originally built to be "non-maintainable" (read: disposable) to allow for a lightweight body without a removable caseback, eliminating the possibility of repairs.

Any original Timex-made Mil-Spec W-4637 4B is considered a "holy grail" item among field watch fans, as the limited lifespan and short production run make them exceedingly rare. But since 2016, Timex has sold a revamped MK1 with a lasting construction, which serves as the basis for menswear designer's variant.

“I’ve always been inspired by the rugged beauty of watches that were originally developed for American servicemen," Snyder said in a statement announcing the timepiece.

“I was excited to work with Timex on a ‘maintainable’ version of those vintage timepieces that would look modern and appeal to today’s gentleman.”

The MK1 Bootcamp gets a sturdy 40mm case forged in aircraft quality stainless-steel case that's water resistant to 50 meters, a 20mm lug on which a NATO-style nylon strap is secure, a domed acrylic crystal, and an INDIGLO backlight. No frills, just functionality.

Priced at a bargain-friendly $128, the Timex x Todd Snyder MK1 Bootcamp is available to purchase online now.

Half the fun is getting there, or so it seems when summer road trips to a beach destination are at play. It’s with that spirit of adventure in mind that Herschel Supply Co., makers of sleek, modern and durable travel gear, has teamed up with Birdwell Beach Britches on a fittingly beachy capsule.

The Herschel Supply x Birdwell collaboration gives you the best of both worlds. It plays off Birdwell Beach Britches’ prowess as makers of legendary California board shorts and Herschel Supply’s expertise at crafting modern EDC gear.

Long favored by lifeguards and surfers, Birdwell board shorts are still made using the same exact methods as when Carrie Ann Birdwell launched the company in 1961.

“We’re incredibly excited to work with one of the oldest and well-respected board short companies in the world,” said Jamie Cormack Herschel Supply Co.’s managing director and co-founder.

It’s a blend of history attention to detail, construction and fabric that sets Birdwell apart, and it’s a nice pairing with Herschel’s modern everyday carry gear

The material found throughout this perfectly timed release is a proprietary SurfNyl water-resistant nylon fabric that’s been turned into a capsule collection of staple items from both brands.

Prices start at $39.99 (for the Seventeen Hip Pack) and run up to $129.99. The lineup includes a tote bag, a durable backpack, two types of Birdwell board shorts (including the legendary 311 style), plus an array of summer-minded apparel.

Herschel Supply x Birdwell also features the classic Birdwell Newport Jacket, a lightweight zip jacket ideal for throwing on during coastal walks.

A SurfNyl hat, a T-shirt and a long-sleeve tee, each ready for beachside relaxation, help round out the partnership, and the Alexander Zip Tote is made with Birdwell-centric touches, including an inner zip pocket for surfboard wax.

The partnership is tinged with a blend of modern and retro style throughout, including the prominent use of classic Birdwell Navy colorways, white stripes and Herschel’s modern white woven label.

The collection is available online at Herschel Supply and at Birdwell for a limited time, and it’s got more than everything you need to outfit yourself from head-to-toe in beach gear from one seriously stylish collaboration.

<![CDATA[This Wild Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR Could Sell for $10 Million]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=rides/this-classic-mercedes-benz-amg-clk-gtr-could-sell-for-10-million-at-auctionhttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=rides/this-classic-mercedes-benz-amg-clk-gtr-could-sell-for-10-million-at-auctionThu, 22 Jul 2021 10:00:00 GMT

A number of multimillion-dollar classic cars from the likes of Ferrari, Mercedes, Aston Martin and other esteemed automotive marques will hit the block at Gooding & Company's Pebble Beach Auctions, but this 1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR Strassenversion is one of only two valued in the eight-figure range.

That commanding sum is justified by both the supercar's rarity and link to a dominating race history. As the "Strassenversion" qualifier indicates, this is the street-legal version of a car created for the inaugural FIA GT Championship in 1997.

The German automaker's performance AMG division had a matter of months to develop a race car based on the CLK coupe when the series was announced.

AMG fitted the track-only CLK GTR with a modified version of the 6.0-liter V12 featured in many Mercedes road cars and a chassis developed by Lola Composites of the UK, and the work paid off. The CLK GRT won six of the series’ 11 rounds to claim the 1997 championship and every round of the 1998 championship.

Mercedes preserved the CLK GTR's undefeated legacy by promptly pulling out of the series after the back-to-back win.

But those titles would have been void if Mercedes hadn't cooperated with the FIA's stipulation that 25 roadgoing variants of the racer be produced, which brings us to the 1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR Straseenversion here.

The ninth of 20 coupes five roadsters built, it's based on the same core architecture and carbon fiber body work but runs a larger 6.9-liter V12 engine that feeds 604 horsepower through a sequential six-speed.

The massive hoop-style rear wing—undeniably one of the natural focal points of the exterior—is also integrated into the body instead of mounted. Inside are the AMG trimmings of the time, with a combo of leather, Alcantara and suede cloaking all requisite surfaces, as well as all analog gauges.

Only the original 1997 buyer and the current consignor have put 896 miles on the odometer.

Gooding & Company set the pre-auction estimate at $8.5-$10 million. The other eight-figure car on offer is a much older and more famous 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione, valued at $10-$12 million. Other offerings include a 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT, 1958 BMW 507 Series II, and a 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster

We'll see which one sells for the most when the two-day Pebble Beach Auctions sale kicks off on August 13.

Fans of director Billy Corben's excellent 2006 documentary Cocaine Cowboys and its sequels are in for a treat: Netflix is dropping a new six-part limited series on a pair of legendary drug runners who ruled Miami's underworld in the 1980s.

Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami traces the wild story of the reputed distributors for two of Colombia’s biggest cartels, Cuban exiles Augusto “Willy” Falcon and Salvador “Sal” Magluta, who were accused of smuggling over 75 tons of cocaine into the U.S. in the 1980s.

Watch the trailer above, and check out Netflix's detailed plot synopsis here:

Fifteen years after the release of his cult classic film comes director Billy Corben’s Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami, a six-part saga on the South Florida traffickers indicted in one of the largest drug cases in U.S. history. Alleged to be the chief U.S. distributors for two of Colombia’s biggest cartels, Cuban exiles Augusto “Willy” Falcon and Salvador “Sal” Magluta were accused of smuggling over 75 tons of cocaine into the U.S. in the 1980s.

The high school friends built a reputed $2 billion empire that made Willy and Sal, aka “Los Muchachos,” two of Miami’s biggest celebrities. While law enforcement plotted their takedown, the world champion powerboat racers managed to skillfully outrun and outmaneuver prosecution for decades before the chase finally came to an end.

Featuring colorful interviews with those closest to them, their defense team, and the Feds tasked with taking them down, the series paints a vivid portrait of the last of Miami’s “cocaine cowboys.”

Six 45-minuted episodes of the Corben-directed Cocaine Cowboys: Kings of Miami will begin streaming exclusively on Netflix August 4.

<![CDATA[Bitcoin Climbs Back Above $31,000 After Latest Stock Dip]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=news/bitcoin-climbs-above-31000-after-major-price-drophttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=news/bitcoin-climbs-above-31000-after-major-price-dropWed, 21 Jul 2021 15:28:55 GMT

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies rebounded Wednesday after a wide sell-off saw the world's largest digital coin sink below the $30,000 mark for the first time since late June.

At press time, Coindesk showed Bitcoin had recovered to $31,830 following a brutal dip that hit the crypto market en masse. The uptick represents a 7.38 percent value increase in the last 24 hours, while others like Ether and XRP climbed back around 9 and 6 percent respectively, according to CNBC

The price drop was presaged by news that the New Jersey attorney general issued a cease and desist letter ordering crypto lending firm BlockFi to stop offering interest-bearing accounts.

A reason for the subsequent recover is unclear, but cryptocurrency values are notoriously volatile, with Bitcoin often setting the market trend. Since hitting a three-month high of nearly $58,800 in early May, Bitcoin tanked to hover between $34,000 and $40,000 through late May and all of June before dropping to a three-month low of $29,600 on July 20.

As for the most recent increase, one expert believes it could be short-lived. Vijay Ayyar, head of Asia-Pacific at cryptocurrency exchange Luno, told CNBC that the price move was likely a "dead cat bounce," i.e. an asset's brief recovery from a prolonged decline before a return back into a slide.

“We saw broad market rallies across the board last night as well, and I think crypto is just playing off of that,” Ayyar told CNBC.

“In general, there are lot of macro factors weighing down on risk-on assets at the moment — inflation worries, Covid, and with crypto we’ve got more specific worries such as much more regulatory oversight.”

Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange, is under pressure from international regulators, while China is attempting to stop new coin production via cryptomining altogether.

<![CDATA[Giannis Antetokounmpo Dunks On NBA 'Superteams' After Bucks Win Championship]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=sports/giannis-antetokounmpo-superstars-shorts-superteams-bucks-winhttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=sports/giannis-antetokounmpo-superstars-shorts-superteams-bucks-winWed, 21 Jul 2021 14:54:00 GMT
Giannis Antetokounmpo

Milwaukee Bucks power forward and rising NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo came to play. In the Tuesday NBA finals matchup between the Bucks and the Phoenix Suns, he scored an astonishing 50 points in a performance that left pretty much everyone in awe.

In the end, he led the Bucks to their first championship since 1971. In comments after the game, Antetokounmpo did not come to play. He addressed why he stayed with the Bucks when many expected him to move to another team following the Bucks' exit from round two of the 2020 NBA Playoffs.

Antetokounmpo, who is 26, said he'd signed his Bucks supermax extension contract in 2020 because he "couldn't leave."

"I couldn't leave. There was a job that had to be finished," he continued. It was a sentiment that earned the respect of players from other pro sports, like former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman.

Regarding Milwaukee, he said, "This is my city. They trust me. They believe in me. They believe in us. Even when we lost ... obviously I wanted to get the job done."

Giannis (often referred to by his first name because his last name has more syllables than most English speakers can handle) then threw some world-class shade:

But that's my stubborn side. It's easy to go somewhere and go win a championship with somebody else. It's easy. I could go — I don't want to put anybody on the spot — but I could go to a super team and just do my part and win a championship. But this is the hard way to do it, and this is the way to do it and we did it.

The Bucks stalwart was basically taking a shot at NBA stars like LeBron James, who became a part of a superteam when he left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat, and Kevin Durant, who essentially did the same when he joined the Brooklyn Nets.

One thing is clear: Milwaukee fans absolutely love the guy. On Wednesday Twitter lit up over Giannis again — because he went to get some chicken nuggets.

Antetokounmpo ordered 50 — not 51 — nuggets.

Real champs know how to celebrate a legendary victory.

Conor McGregor has at least one badass new toy to play with while he spends the coming weeks recovering from the broken leg that lost him his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

This year's highest-paid athlete dropped a major flex on the Instagram in posting the delivery of his $4 million Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63, an exclusive luxury yacht built in collaboration between the supercar marque and The Italian Sea Group.

"My Lamborghini yacht is ready," McGregor captioned the photo of the racy vessel. According to TMZ, the rowdy Irish fighter first picked up the so-called "Supercar of the Sea" back in October. The "63" references both the automaker's founding in 1963 and the 63-foot-long hull.

With styling that heavily references the fastest and most powerful Raging Bull in the Sant'Agata Bolognese-based marque's stable, the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 boasts dual 2,000-horsepower V12s capable of pushing it to a wave-slicing 69 mph.

Much like modern Lamborghini's car bodies, the hull and superstructure are constructed largely from carbon fiber. Thanks to the lightweight material, the Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 makes the ultra-lightweight class at 24 tons.

Naval engineers who specialized in hydrodynamic sciences looked to lines of Marcello Gandini-designed classics like the Miura and Countach to create a high-performance shell. The hard top is inspired by Lamborghini roadsters, providing sun and wind protection, while the the Y-shaped bow lights channel the Sian's headlights.

McGregor may be coming off of back-to-back losses to Poirier in the Octagon, but he's still absolutely killing it outside the cage.

German tuner Novitec already does awe-inspiring revisions of almost everything in Ferrari's current lineup, including the 812 N-Largo

Now the aftermarket supercar specialist is turning its attention to the SF90 Stradale, the most powerful production Prancing Horse available today.

From the factory, Maranello's first plug-in hybrid packs a 769-horsepower version of 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 found in the 488 Pista, plus three extra electric motors to bring maximum output up to 986 hp.

Still not enough, says Novitec. Its in-house high-performance exhaust overhaul with 100 metal-cell catalysts boosts power up into four-digit territory, pushing 1,033 horses to all four wheels via Ferrari's advanced eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 62-mph (or 100-kph) sprint happens in just 2.5 seconds, while the top end is increased to over 211 mph.

Customers can pick from an array of exhaust options with either active flaps to control the sound, or a racy Formula One-style system made from Inconel lightweight superalloy, both of which are completed with two oversized stainless steel tailpipes tipped with carbon fiber for extra pop.

Speaking of, Novitec rendered the SF90 in all black to match its menacing performance. The giant custom rims shown here are painted with a "Bronzino" hue to create visual contrast with each wheel's five spokes and red calipers . A suspension slam drops the front by 30mm and the rear by 25mm, giving the already low-riding exotic an even more aggressive stance.

No art of the interior was provided, but Novitec writes that the interior can be covered in leather and Alcantara in "virtually any desired color."

The cost of Novitec's Ferrari SF90 upgrade package also hasn't been revealed, but you'll need just north of $500,000 to purchase the donor car first.

<![CDATA[Researchers Discover Weed Was First Domesticated in China 12,000 Years Ago]]>https://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=news/researchers-discover-weed-domesticated-chinahttps://waterlifeaquatics.my/?big=news/researchers-discover-weed-domesticated-chinaWed, 21 Jul 2021 10:00:00 GMT

As controversial, consciousness-altering pastimes go, cannabis use is pretty much as old as civilization. Our far-distant ancestors were getting tipsy from the alcohol in fermented fruit long before the first human toked up, but the University of Lausanne found that cannabis was first domesticated in China 12,000 years ago.

Tracking down the sources of prehistoric weed was a collaborative effort that involved scientists in Britain, China, India, Pakistan, Qatar, and the University of Lausanne in Switzerland.

It's easy to imagine the researchers gathered for a drum circle and some hacky-sack followed by a truckload of Doritos to put together their findings and publish them in Science Advances. And what they found was (jokes aside), pretty fascinating.

The study spanned 110 genomes of cannabis varietals, from plants still found in the wild to hybrids created since weed use began its slow march toward legalized use in the western world. Research revealed that in China alone, cannabis has been in use for thousands of years for a variety of purposes, from practical — fabrics, rope — to recognizably modern medicinal and recreational uses.

According to the report, "Cannabis Sativa was first domesticated in early Neolithic times in East Asia."

Research also revealed that "all current hemp and drug cultivars diverged from an ancestral gene pool currently represented by feral plants and landraces in China."

The 12,000-year mark was basically when the cannabis plant was bred into different categories for the first time, with taller, slimmer plants used to make hemp products and shorter, more robust plants used for resin.

The report stated that while there was a long-accepted view that associated "cannabis with a Central Asian center of crop domestication," the University of Lausanne study's results were "consistent with a single domestication origin of Cannabis Sativa in East Asia."

The full report is here, at Science Advances. It's full of highly technical language so it's probably a good idea to not use any cannabis until after you've read it.

Johnny Knoxville may look a little grayer these days, but the Jackass ringleader is back with a vengeance in the new official trailer for Jackass Forever, which 49-year-old Knoxville insists is the final Jackass movie.

Check out the first trailer for the movie above, and peep the plot synopsis here:

Celebrating the joy of being back together with your best friends and a perfectly executed shot to the dingdong, the original jackass crew return for another round of hilarious, wildly absurd, and often dangerous displays of comedy with a little help from some exciting new cast. Johnny and the team push the envelope even further on October 22 in jackass forever.

Knoxville is joined by Jackass vets Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Dave England, Wee Man, Danger Ehren, and Preston Lacy in the new movie. The video begins with slow-motion, black-and-white footage of previous Jackass scenes scored to Johnny Cash's "We'll Meet Again" before launching into the fun-filled first trailer.

Jackass Forever also co-stars newcomers Jasper, Rachel Wolfson, Sean “Poopies” McInerney, Zach Holmes and Eric Manaka, and, judging by the trailer, the film also includes a cameo by Bad Trip star Eric Andre.

The movie is directed by Jeff Tremaine and produced by Tremaine, Knoxville and Spike Jonze. It opens exclusively in theaters on October 22.
